HP's iPAQ 510 Voice Messenger is the first smartphone based on Microsoft's new Windows Mobile 6, i.e. complete with full Mobile Office Suite, enhanced email features, Windows Vista synchronization and more. The smartphone will be available in Asia from April 2007.
The iPAQ 510 is also different from HP's previous smartphones. It focuses more on the voice capabilities and shaped like a regular cellphone. Weighing in at 164g, the black and charcoal-grey phone has a plain design that's suited for working professionals.
It's 2" (176x220) TFT screen displays up to 65,000 colors. Although text and images were clear, it lacked crispness and vibrancy plus the screen seems to hold a lot of smudges. Still, the phone had good readability even under harsh lightings although it's good to note that this version of Windows Mobile 6 does not support touchscreen capabilities.
The HP iPAQ 510 is a quadband phone (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) that comes with Wifi (802.11b/g), Bluetooth and GPRS/EDGE connectivity - 3G/UMTS is notably missing.
The phone has built-in 128MB ROM and 64MB SDRAM, expandable via a microSD slot. There is also a 1.3 megapixel camera at the back that features video recording and a 6x zoom. Battery-life is rated at 6.5 hours of continuos talktime and 7.8 days of standby.
